Evidenced-based practices are interventions that have been proven by science to improve outcomes for persons who receive these services. Evidenced-based practices are used in many areas of health care including mental health and substance abuse. Maryland’s Public Mental Health System benefits package includes evidenced-based practices. Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Family Psycho-education (FPE) and Supported Employment (SE) are three examples of EBP available to consumers and their families. Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)
The goal of Assertive Community Treatment is to help people stay out of the hospital and to develop skills for living in the community, so that their mental illness is not the driving force in their lives. Assertive community treatment offers services that are customized to the individual needs of the consumer, delivered by a team of mental health clinicians, and available 24 hours a day.
